Four Kingmarkers have been fined GH¢48,576.00 for flouting the ban on social gathering Directive. The Akropong Circuit Court ruled this judgment today.
Nana Semenhyia Ohene Asa, Nana Odiasempa Krobea Asante, Benet Osei Poku and Odehye Kofi Asiedu Adu-Mfum were the leaders who charged for the failure to comply to the restriction imposed on Social Gathering contrary to paragraph 1 (A) VII of EI 64 and section 6 of the imposition of Restriction Act 1012/2020.
The lawyer for the accused persons pleaded guilty and said to the court that it wasn’t intentional to violate the Restriction on Social Gathering being announced by Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo. The lawyer said they were experting only 11 elders to en-stool the chief but they couldn’t control the crowd any longer. He also pleaded to the court to consider defendants since they was old enough to serve prison sentence.
The court then applied applied the minimum sentence fining each of the accused persons 1,012 penalty units which translates to GH₵12,144 in default serves a 4-year jail sentence.
